Reiner Knizia is a German games designer who has won numerous awards and is known for having developed his first game at the tender age of six. He has designed well over 500 games; he is highly acclaimed as a designer, having won the Deutscher Spiele Preis four times. Knizia has also designed various game applications specifically for the iPhone & iPod touch, including Monumental, Roto and Robot Master.

Knizia is truly a versatile game designer, with having designed games from most categories like: small two-player card games, children’s games, simple games, sophisticated games, and even a live-action roleplaying game.

Most of Knizia’s games tend not to try to model a specific environment, but instead try to invoke the thought and decision-making processes that are key to the theme. In this game-world the players are always attempting to price risk.

Some of his most famous games are: Amun-Re winner of the Deutscher Spiele Preis 2003, Kingdoms Winner of the Origins Award for Best Abstract Board Game of 2002, Blue Moon, Keltis winner of the Spiel des Jahres 2008, Lord of the Rings winner of the Spiel des Jahres 2001 special prize for best use of literature in a game, Lost Cities winner, International Gamers Award 2000 for Best 2-player strategy game and many more.

But let’s get back to Knizia’s ipod touch games:

Monumental

On a first sight this game seems simple enough, the goal in this game is to complete each horizontal row with matching tiles like: the same symbol, the same color, a perfect pair of two out of three tiles and the same number of symbols, the more of these you match in a row the more points you get.

Roto

The rules here are simple to understand so anyone can play, but mastering all the challenges and planning ahead to use the best possible combinations is harder than it may seem. You can pause and resume whenever it suits you.

Robot Master

Take turns placing numbered cards down on a 5 x 5 grid to score lines both vertically and horizontally. The scores for each line are determined by the sum of the cards.

At the end the one thing you need to remember, is that Reiner Knizia’s games are a lot let simple then you give them credit.

1] Select Start> Settings> Personal tab>. Select ‘Today’, and then select the Items tab. Uncheck the items that you do not want to view on the today screen.

2] Go to Calendar> Settings. In display options, check ‘display all day events’ to enable display of all the appointments of the current day.

Windows Mobile Tips

3] Go to Start> Settings> System and select the screen icon. Here select the text size tab and move the slider to the left to decrease the font size. This will enable you to view more stuff on your home screen.

4] If your Windows device has a QWERTY keyboard, some of the keys will have secondary symbols which can be activated by pressing ‘Shift’ and then the respective key. However, if the desired symbol does not appear with just the shift key, press the ‘Fn’ key instead.

Windows Mobile Tips

5] To access the run command box similar to Windows XP, press the center button and simultaneously tap and hold the time display at the top right of the screen. When you release the stylus, a menu will popup with ‘Run’ option.

6] Don’t confuse that box at the top right of the contacts screen as a customized by holding ‘ALT’ and then ‘Find’ option … it’s not, it is a ‘Filter’ and it’s blazingly fast even if you have over a thousand contacts in your list. It’s limited to just the first and last name of your contact but it will pull up a company if an entry with that does not have anything in the name fields.

Windows Mobile Tips

7] If you want to remove multiple contacts from your phone, you have to select and delete the contacts individually as multi selection does not work. Instead, sync your contacts with Outlook on your computer, then delete the entries in outlook and resync your PDA. Your contact list will be updated.

8] Go to Start> Settings> System> Screen> Cleartype and select the box that says enable clear type. Click ‘Ok’ and then restart your PDA to enable cleartype for smooth fonts.

9] To stop all running programs, go to Start> Settings> System, scroll down to memory and then go to running programs and then select ‘Stop All.’

10] Do not use the ‘Update Library’ function in Windows Media Player on your Windows Mobile Device. This will add all sorts of audio files and sound effects to your media library from both your main device and storage card.

Surf the web with the Nokia 6120 and download music and videos quickly over a high speed 3G or HSDPA connection.
