I am looking for an ebook reader. I do not want to get the Kindle, as I find it too restrictive. However, I am currently looking at the Nook (offered at Barnes & Noble) and the iPad. What are the differences between the two. Which one would you buy and why? Thanks!

iPad has a little bit more functions but only 1 thing at a time. Don’t use it!
there is like a big difference its like a big i..POD and a small laptop it has the size of the keys of a laptop when your typing it is a really big difference between a laptop and ipod
Nook sucks! Just get iPad…. you will have apps a lot of that are free…. Nook is just a bad copy of Kindle …….. Barnes & Boble have a marker to sell books…. in other words they a name that can be used to sell books…. Ipad is about everything…. email, books ….. chat.. music…. video… and so on….. apple has a presentation on the website you can look at….
The ‘Nook’ is just for reading ebooks, thats all it does. The iPad is a device that has thosands of applications from internet to email, so in addition to having a larger and better screen then the ‘Nook’ it does alot more tasks.
For reading purpose you better choose an ebook reader. The screen of iPad is no good for reading.

Don’t get the iPad if you’re looking for an ebook reader. iPad isn’t designed for reading and it doesn’t use eInk and is definitely no good to our eyes for reading. Read this article and you’ll know:

Actually it is a misunderstanding that the Kindle is restrictive. There are a number of ebook formats that can be supported, including PDF. If you buy ebooks in open formats like PDF in other websites, you can read them on the Kindle. If any ebook that are protected by DRM, it can only be read on specific reader, and it is the same case for both the Nook and the Kindle. I own the Kindle 2. If you ask me to choose again now, I’ll still go for the Kindle instead of the Nook, because I think the web browsing function is rather important (the Nook doesn’t even have a web browser). The free internet (and now it is free international internet) plus the web browser allow me to look for information whenever I’m in need. It is really a cool feature that cannot be missed. And right now it is free for both the U.S. and many other countries, it is just incredible when you bring it to trip.
And indeed, the Kindle has more available books, and ebooks are cheaper on the Kindle as well (Barnes and Nobles always count in the one million free books from Google, which can also be read on the Kindle. For Sony, many users complain it is difficult to find books for it).

Heaps, you can only run one application at a time on the Ipad not a good choice for people who want to get work done.
I got iPad and I have used kindle before. iPad doesn’t use e ink but with IPS technology and auto brightness , reading is pleasure and it doesn’t strain eyes at all.
Multiple tasking coming this fall on iPad but even without it you can do lot of work on it. It has complete iWork that means you can create spreadsheet,word doc and PowerPoint presentation right on device and I must say interface is impressive and I create word doc for my work everyday.
You can play radio at the background. App “radio” works fine at the background.typing is charm on it .Reading magazines and comics are incredible.
It has many other capabilities than an ereader doesn’t have. If you need a break from reading or work , you can play a game. Gaming on iPad is better than any device on the planet except X-Box and PS 3.
You can download YouTube and other video for offline viewing. You can download PDF files right on device. Create a word doc and upload to iWork.com and then access them from anywhere in the planet.
It does everything immaculately.It’s an awesome gadget for students and professionals. It’s equally great for book and game lovers.
